For next week: Volpone
2. Each group should please write out an agreed first paragraph for an examination essay that answers the following question with reference to Volpone:
The title-page of Volpone, as printed in 1616, describes the play as 'A Comoedie'. How useful is the distinction between romantic comedy and satirical comedy in understanding the genre of Volpone and/or Twelfth Night?
3. I would like to look at character in Volpone, and the limitations of 'character'.
Please consider the following characters, and report back. Are these characters 'rounded' or 'flat'? How? Why? What is their function in the play?
