For next week:
Here is the poem I had intended to give out at the end of the week 2 session--but there was no time.
Please analyse it and be prepared to talk about it. Please don't look it up: I will explain why not in class. I just want you to look at the poem in itself without any knowledge of who wrote it or when it was written. If you happen to know it, please keep quiet about that knowledge. What I am interested in is finding out how far you can analyse a poem without that external knowledge; and what kind of information you might feel you are lacking if you do so.
Each group should analyse the whole poem; but I will ask group 1 to talk about the first stanza, group 2 the second, and group 3 the third.
