During my time at secondary school I was a member of the debating team which won several awards. I played first trumpet in the school's wind and jazz bands and was a member of the athletics team.
In my fifth year I took part in a week-long residential course in the Lake District which was designed to improve our physical and mental awareness. During this time we worked in set teams in order to build trust and co-operation. We took part in a number of physical activities including canoeing, absailing and rock-climbing and we also spent the night on a mountain in order that we should learn to look after ourselves.
In the same year I was choosen to take part in a team of pupils who entered competiton based on environmental awareness, sponsored by Sainsburys. We chose to reseach ways of preventing sound and visual pollution caused by the school's Astroturf pitch reaching the surrounding residents. We divised an highly effective solution that we illustrated by builing a scaled-down model of the school which we used in our presentation. Our team won the regional final.
