This paper was originally delivered at the Criminalistic Institute
in Prague, in 1993. It is in the process of being translated into Czech
for publication in a Czech Forensic Science Journal.
It is a revision of a paper I wrote some years ago ('Forensic Handwriting
Analysis', published in Talking About Text. Ed. M. Coulthard. Birmingham,
English Language Research: 1986. pp. 189-207. That paper was
written in honour of my kind friend David Brazil, who died recently. I would
like to dedicate this Web publication to his memory, with respect and affection.
