Absence from class

When you come to a class, please make sure you sign the register. This is your and my proof that you attended. The University rules about non-attendance are now rather strict, and it is very much in your interest that you do this.

If you miss one of the classes, I need a written message from you explaining the reason for absence. A verbal message is not enough: I need to be able to file it. It is much better if you do this in advance, so that the class doesn't waste time waiting for you.

You can get the message to me in any one of a number of ways. You can:

If your signature is not on the register, and I haven't had a written note from you by the end of the week (a message via the secretaries counts as a written note), you will get a polite message from the computer asking for a written explanation of absence. The computer will continue to ask you for an explanation, politely but utterly tirelessly, until it gets one.

In Theories of the Mind there is a set programme of work to be done by students who miss the class, and you will get a message about this and about the work to be done in preparation fro the following meeting. The information is also on my Web site. In the other classes there is no such set programme: it is up to you to learn what you missed, and find out about what you need to do for the following meeting, from other students. You will usually find information on my Web site that will help.
