Layout of the booklist and citations

Getting this perfect is a Þddly business. And, some would say, not worth bothering about. My own view is that it's a skill, which is not difÞcult to learn, with a little perseverance, and once you've got it you'll have it for the rest of your life, and any citing and referencing you do will be professional and impressive. Why not make it perfect?

More to the point, in the second year of the English course Single Honours students are required to learn this skill in order to produce a dissertation. We have a handout, which is here, that sets out the rules for laying out a bibliography. If you are a Single Honours student, why not learn the rules now, and apply them to every essay you do?

Even if you're not a SH student, the fact remains that the major point of being in the English Department is to read books: it's quite vital that you have a proper way of referring to them, and if you do it according to the approved system, you will impress your marker considerably.
