Spelling problems

If you have a problem with spelling you should treat it quite seriously. Of course it has little to do with the content of the essay, which may be brilliant, but it does affect things, perhaps more than you think. It's important, not just now but in later life: bad spelling makes people think you're stupid. It's as simple as that. Is this what you want?

Every essay you do, you should give to someone who can proofread and spot these things before you hand it in. You must know someone who is a competent speller. Get them to go through it carefully and point them out to you. Learn what kind of mistakes you make, and don't make them any more. This is the only way you can get out of that kind of problem.

There is an extremely useful chapter on spelling in The Oxford Guide to Writing.
